On the second day of the 3rd International Symposium on New Horizons in Global Communication: From Alphabet to Algorithm, organized by Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University, a session titled “Cinema, Media, and Digital Representations” was held in the Faculty of Communication.
The session, held in classroom Z-127, was moderated by Lecturer Dr. Ferdinand Eloke Okoro.
The first speaker, researcher Elif Eyüboğlu, discussed digital surveillance and the encoding and decoding model through the documentary “Social Dilemma.” Eyüboğlu stated that her research involved interviews with a total of eight people, four women and four men, and shared her findings on new media usage habits with the participants.
Following this, Dr. Suna Can Özbulduk presented her paper titled “The Digital Transformation of Acting in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: The Reflections of International Regulatory Practices in the Turkish Film Industry.” The presentation addressed the effects of artificial intelligence technologies on the film industry and the reflections of international regulations in Turkey.
Next, Dr. Rana Alsalaymeh, Assistant Professor, presented her paper titled “The Genius of Character and Concept Formation: A Comparative Study on the Influence of Arabic and English Linguistic Structures.” Alsalaymeh began her presentation by thanking the university.
The session also included a presentation by researchers İbrahim Öksüz and Melis Yıldızıviran titled “Digitizing Cultural Memory: MUBI Transforming the Film ‘Time to Love’ into a Space for Cultural Interaction.” The presentation noted that the film was previously only available through specific festivals and archives, but has now reached a wider audience through digital platforms. The presentation also discussed MUBI’s 4K restoration of the film in 2023 and the audience feedback from various countries.
The final presentation of the session was given by Lecturer Dr. Ferdinand Eloke Okoro, who offered his assessments on the use of deepfake technology and artificial intelligence on digital platforms. At the end of the program, the Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Emre Tandırlı, presented the speakers with certificates of participation.
