Prof. Dr. Edibe Sözen Maltepe University Türkiye

Born in 1961, Sivas, Gürün; Professor. Completed his PhD (1989) and MA (1985) at Istanbul University, Faculty of Economics. Graduated from Marmara University, Department of International Relations (1982). Worked as a faculty member at Istanbul University, Faculty of Communication (1985-2006). Invited to the Department of Communication Arts, University of Wisconsin, USA (1991-1993) as an honorary fellow in order to conduct his post-doctoral studies. He served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Anadolu Agency (2003-2006). Worked as a communications consultant at ARTER Advertising Agency (2003-2006). In addition to his MKYK membership of the AK Party (2006-2017), he served as the Deputy Chairman responsible for Media and Promotion of the AK Party (2006-2009). She was elected as the First Region MP for Istanbul from the AK Party (2007). She served as a member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the TBMM Human Rights Commission (2007-2011) and as a member of the Women-Men Equal Opportunities Commission (2009-2011). In addition to her academicianship at Hasan Kalyoncu University in Gaziantep, she also served as Advisor to the Rector, Vice Rector (2012-2020), Acting Rector and Rector (2018-2020). She became the Founding Dean of the Faculty of Communication at the university. She gave seminars on ‘Political Communication’ in various provinces within the scope of the Politics Academy. She was awarded the Science Award in Germany with the joint study titled Third Generation Turks in Western Europe (2000). She participated in seminars on culture and women, especially in the Netherlands and Germany. She carried out the project titled “Social Capital” (2014) in Gaziantep. She also served as a consultant for the “Middle East Peace, Actors, Problems and Solution Search Symposium” (2014) held in Gaziantep and the international symposium titled “A World of Women” (2018) held in Mardin. She organized the “Democracy School” (2003) seminars held in Istanbul with the support of the Dutch organization Cordaid. She currently serves as a Member of the Presidency’s Social Policies Board (2018-…), a Member of the Board of Directors of the Press Advertisement Institution (2019-…); and a Member of the Advisory Board of the Ministry of Interior, Civil Society Relations Directorate (2020-…). Sözen, who is a member of the Children’s Foundation, has nine published books and nearly a hundred national and international articles.
