Born in 1962 in Sakarya, Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocabıçak completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Sakarya. He graduated from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Department of Aeronautical Engineering in 1983. He completed his master's degree at ITU in 1985, and his doctorate at ITU Institute of Science in 1994. He became an Assistant Professor at Sakarya University (SAU) in 1995, Associate Professor in Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing in 1999, and Professor in Computer Engineering Computer Software Department in 2005. His administrative duties include Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Director of Continuing Education Center, Head of the Department of Computer Engineering, Director of Computer and Research Center (BAUM), and Director of Distance Education Center (UZEM). He served as Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Informatics Sciences between 2010-2014, and Vice Rector between 2014-2018. He pioneered the establishment of Sakarya University Management Information System (SABİS) in 2010 and served as its coordinator between 2010 and 2019. He currently serves as the president of YÖKAK (Yöksek Education Quality Board). He is married and has two children.
