Prof. Dr. Suat Gezgin Istanbul University Türkiye
Prof. Dr. Suat Gezgin was born in 1952 in Erzurum. He completed his middle and high school education at Muğla Turgut Reis High School and his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in Sociology-Ethnology at Aix-Marseille University, Faculty of Letters, and the Anthropology and Prehistory Departments at Pierre et Marie Curie Paris VI University. Between 1983 and 1993, he worked as an assistant, chief assistant, and associate professor at the Anthropology Laboratory of Aix-Marseille University. He also served as Deputy Director of the Anthropology Department at the General Directorate of Museums in Paris. He served as the Foreign News Representative of Hürriyet Newspaper in France and in the News Center of the same newspaper in Turkey. After nearly 20 years of experience in France, Gezgin returned to Turkey in 1993 and served as department head in the Radio, TV and Cinema, Journalism, and Public Relations departments at Istanbul University, Faculty of Communication. He served as vice dean at the same faculty from 1993 to 2000 and as dean from 2000 to 2010. He also served as a member of the Istanbul University Senate and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Press Advertisement Agency and the Press Council. He has authored numerous publications, ranging from the Oral History of the Press to journalism, cultural communication, and anthropology. He currently teaches in the Department of Journalism at Istanbul University's Faculty of Communication.
